![]() ![]() If all goes well with the aviary and they settle in alright I might look at getting another hen, I was told by the pet store employee that there was two hens and a male, they were only just weaned so it was hard for me to tell as well. The diamonds are quite beautiful in terms of sound, especially compared to the usual budgie chatter and lovebird squawking I'm used to. I'm not quite sure what they're trying to do by sitting on each other, it's mainly the two brothers sitting on each other (they both do it) or Sprinkles (hen) sitting on either of them. Yes I also thought it looked a bit too small, they fit in it better when they were tiny babies that just kind of sat on the floor but now they use the air space. Their relationship will develop over time it's really cute.Ĭlick to expand. The dimensions for the aviary are 2m long, 1m wide and 1m high, I would make it bigger but I can't fit much more inside, is this big enough? If not I could look at moving some furniture to make room. Over time they get closer and they start accepting preening from each other. Boy usually bowcoos his heart out while following the mate of his choice all over and the girl usually plays hard to get and acts like she doesn't even see him for a while lol. It can look a little rough at times, but overall it's a lot more sweet. They're likely only going to get worse and more aggressive as they get older.Ĭourting behaviour you're going to be able to distinguish. Oh and I was going to add that it sounds like they aren't highly aggressive yet they sound like babies starting to hit maturity and beginning to try and figure this stuff out. Doves will get pretty physical and even pluck each other's feathers out by the beakful. Right now it's not fair for Star, and it's even potentially dangerous for him. Then at some point two of them might pair up, but either way there's a good chance they'll all stay a flock. Best idea in my opinion is have separate cages for all three (Unless you've got like a real big aviary), and let them play together outside of their cages so they can figure out their relationships (with enough room that they don't get hurt). Spark and Screech might pair up, or they might not. At least Star, because he's getting picked on. In my opinion, they need to be separated. Doves who don't have a lot of room to themselves will be brought to get physical like this. The latter you would probably recognize as more than standing on each other. ![]() I think we can safely rule out real mating. Can you either explain this a bit more or get a video? It can be mating, it can be just silly wrestling or fighting, or it can be "rival dominance mating", which is also a thing. I wouldn't be caging two boys and a girl together!! Now as for standing on each other. ![]() You say Spark is aggressive to Star so I really don't think he's thinking of him as a potential mate rather as a rival to get rid of. "Look at me I'm so pretty n strong n I sound so good!" Male rivals will go on like this at each other a lot. ![]() As such it's hard to explain, but I guess it really is mainly showing off. Yes males will do this to potential mates but it can be accompanied by pecking even then. This isn't only courtship this is show-offy, potentially threatening behaviour. ![]()
